The timing of river entry in the Atlantic salmon is known to depend on genetic, demographic and environmental factors, but little is known about the relative magnitude of among population and among year variation and covariation in this respect in natural state Atlantic salmon rives. To investigate this, variability in the timing of river entry in three historical Finnish Atlantic salmon populations were analyzed using salmon trap data collected during 1870- 1902. The analyses reveled that 1 ) the timing of river entry differed substantially and consistently among the rivers, and that 2) variation among the rivers was much larger than variation among years. Annual variations were not explained by regional environmental conditions, whereas in one river the timing of the local flood peak was a significant predictor of the timing of river entry. Differences in the timing of salmon entry to geographically closely situated rivers suggests that a regionally fixed opening date for coastal fisheries might not be the best management strategy as it may lead to uneven exploitation of salmon populations from different rivers [ Current Zoology 55 (5) : 342 - 349, 2009] .  相似文献

Avian timing of reproduction is strongly affected by ambient temperature. Here we show that there is an additional effect of sunspots on laying date, from five long-term population studies of great and blue tits (Parus major and Cyanistes caeruleus), demonstrating for the first time that solar activity not only has an effect on population numbers but that it also affects the timing of animal behaviour. This effect is statistically independent of ambient temperature. In years with few sunspots, birds initiate laying late while they are often early in years with many sunspots. The sunspot effect may be owing to a crucial difference between the method of temperature measurements by meteorological stations (in the shade) and the temperatures experienced by the birds. A better understanding of the impact of all the thermal components of weather on the phenology of ecosystems is essential when predicting their responses to climate change.  相似文献

2000~2004年秋在辽宁旅顺老铁山自然保护区,通过鸟类环志和直接观察的方法,对该地区雀形目(Passeriformes)鸟类秋季迁徙规律进行了研究。5年共环志11 040只雀形目鸟类,发现8种保护区新记录种。结果表明,鸟类迁徙高峰大都集中在10月中下旬;气候条件与鸟类迁徙关系密切;不同年份优势种及种群数量均不同;鸟类的迁徙具有一定的顺序性和集群现象,但不同种类迁徙的种群大小又有差别;2004年雀形目鸟类的种类和数量都明显少于前4年,略有下降趋势。  相似文献

At-sea distribution of seabirds has been studied on different scales and with different focus in many parts of the world. However, factors and/or processes causing certain patterns are often not easily explained. This also holds true for fast migrating species of international conservation concern, such as the little gull (Larus minutus) in the German Bight (southeastern North Sea). In this study, we used multiyear distributional data in combination with behavioural observations and food sampling to investigate spatial and temporal patterns and their possible causes during spring migration. The results show a highly focussed migration pattern during the last week of April and the first week of May. The river Eider seemed to play an important role as main migration route. Highest numbers were found either close to the mainland or close to the offshore islands. Little gulls used certain subareas for intense feeding (i.e. the region near Helgoland and the outlet of river Elbe) and others for migration. Hydrographic phenomena such as fronts and foam lines play an important role within the feeding sites and strongly influence behaviour and distribution. Feeding behaviour as well as samples of probable prey revealed different quality of feeding sites according to the energy density of the most abundant probable food items (drowned insects versus zooplankton and fish). In conclusion, the area utilisation of L. minutus during spring migration in the German Bight showed a clear pattern, and sites with main feeding action should be regarded as sensitive for little gulls, at least during spring migration.  相似文献

目的观察pcDNA3.1真核表达载体介导的反义CD151基因转染对培养的大鼠动脉平滑肌细胞(VSMCs)迁移的影响。方法构建携带全长正义和反义CD151的真核表达载体pcDNA3.1-CD151和pcDNA3.1-anti-CD151重组质粒,转染体外培养的VSMCs,以RT-PCR和Western blot方法检测CD151的表达,用Boyden趋化小室方法观察细胞迁移。结果与载体对照组、脂质体对照组和空白对照组3组均值比较,转染48h后,反义CD151组mRNA表达降低58%,蛋白表达降低51%,正义CD151组的VSMCs CD151mRNA表达增加171%,蛋白表达增加133%;趋化迁移的细胞数,反义CD151组为37.9±6.3,正义CD151组为86.5±12.4;载体对照组、脂质体对照组和空白对照组分别为60.3±7.1、61.8±7.6和67.3±9.6。反义CD151组显著低于其余各组(P<0.01),正义CD151组显著高于其余各组(P<0.01)。结论pcDNA3.1真核表达载体介导的反义CD151转染,通过抑制CD151的表达,能够显著抑制大鼠VSMCs的迁移。  相似文献

We have investigated stem turnover strategy for Lindera umbellata, an understory shrub that sprouts from its rootstock under natural conditions to replace constituent stems, on the basis of the hypothesis that the multiple-stemmed form of woody species is an adaptation enabling efficient reproduction in high-stress environments. We tested the hypothesis that the timing of stem replacement maximizes sexual reproduction for the shrub. We developed a model for the time of optimum replacement of a stem by a daughter stem which maximizes the sexual reproduction of a shrub and tested the model using L. umbellata growing in the field. From the model, the optimum time of replacement of a stem with a daughter stem is when cumulative sexual reproduction per unit time for the stem is maximum. In practice, this will be the last age (t opt) at which annual sexual reproduction in a stem can potentially exceed cumulative sexual reproduction per unit time for the stem. Half of the stems died at almost t opt and had sexually mature daughter stems at that time. Other stems, however, died at times more remote from t opt when daughter stems were sexually immature. It is thought that normal replacement of the latter stems was prevented by accidents such as breakage. We conclude that clumps of L. umbellata achieve efficient sexual reproduction by stem replacement at the optimum time, although accidents can, to some extent, determine when the stem actually dies.  相似文献

目的:探讨炎症因子Daintain/AIF-1在肝癌发生发展进程中的作用。方法:利用结晶紫染色方法测定HepG2细胞的增殖,流式细胞术测定细胞周期分布,western blot方法检测相关周期表达蛋白,Transwell方法检测HepG2细胞的迁移。结果:在此研究中我们发现Daintain/AIF-1通过上调周期相关蛋白cyclinD1和cdk4的表达以及增加Rb的磷酸化,加快了HepG2细胞周期的进程,从而促进了HepG2细胞的增殖,另外我们发现Daintain/AIF-1也促进了HepG2细胞的迁移。结论:此研究表明Daintain/AIF-1参与了肝癌的发生发展进程,更进一步证明了炎症因子与癌症的发生发展密不可分。  相似文献

SUMMARY

The behaviour of a single specimen of Tilapia rendalli Boulenger was observed June through October 1986 in Lake Ngezi, Zimbabwe, by the use of a surgically-implanted radiotransmitter. The individual displayed a distinct homing response on two occasions, returning to the cove of capture (1) 1.5 km away within 48 hours of release (95Z of the distance was covered in 24 hours), and (2) after a lengthy migration some 6.0 km up the lake with other tilapia. During the only observed migration in late June, the fish travelled a conservative distance of 6.7 km over a 5-day period, sometimes at rates > 150 m/hr. The fish was also characterized by strong territoriality (i.e., preference to the cove of capture) and avoidance to the approach of the researcher by boat.  相似文献

It is generally assumed that CTCF-binding sites are synonymous with the demarcation of expression domains by promoting the formation of chromatin loops. We have proposed earlier, however, that such features may be context-dependent. In support of this notion, we show here that chromatin loop structures, impinging on CTCF-binding sites 1/2 and 3/4 at the 5′ and 3′-ends, respectively, within the maternal allele of the H19 imprinting control region (ICR), differ significantly. Although abrogation of CTCF binding to the maternal H19 ICR allele results in loss of chromatin loops in the 3′-region, there is a dramatic gain of long-range chromatin loops impinging on the 5′-region. As the degree of occupancy of its four CTCF-binding sites discriminates between the chromatin insulator and replication timing functions, we submit that the CTCF-binding sites within the H19 ICR are functionally diverse and organize context-dependent higher order chromatin conformations.  相似文献

Arachnocampa species, commonly called glowworms, are flies whose larvae use light to attract prey. Here we compare rhythmicity in two of the nine described species: the Tasmanian species, Arachnocampa tasmaniensis, which inhabits caves and wet forest, and the eastern Australian mainland species, A. flava, primarily found in subtropical rainforest. Both species show the same nocturnal glowing pattern in external (epigean) environments and the same inhibition of bioluminescence by light and both species show circadian regulation of bioluminescence. We find that the underlying circadian bioluminescence propensity rhythm (BPR) of the two species peaks at opposite phases of the day:night cycle. Larvae of A. flava, placed in constant darkness in the laboratory, bioluminesce during the subjective scotophase, typical of nocturnal animals, whereas A. tasmaniensis shows the opposite tendency, bioluminescing most intensely during the subjective photophase. In A. tasmaniensis, which are exposed to natural day:night cycles, light exposure during the day overrides the high bioluminescence propensity through negative masking and leads to a release of bioluminescence after dusk when the BPR is on the wane. A consequence is that A. tasmaniensis is able to start glowing at any phase of the light:dark cycle as soon as masking by light is released, whereas A. flava is locked into nocturnal bioluminescence. We suggest that the paradoxical BPR of A. tasmaniensis is an adaptation for living in the cave environment. Observations of bioluminescence in colonies of A. tasmaniensis located in the transition from a cave mouth to the dark zone show that glowing is inhibited by light exposure but a peak bioluminescence follows immediately after “dusk” at their location. The substantial difference in the circadian regulation of bioluminescence between the two species probably reflects adaptation to the cave (hypogean) habitat in A. tasmaniensis and the forest (epigean) habitat in A. flava.
